Disparities in hepatocellular carcinoma incidence by race/ethnicity and geographic area in California: Implications for prevention
Cancer Aug 23, 2018
Yang B, et al. - Given that assessing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) disparities by ethnicity in California may inform priorities for HCC prevention, researchers estimated age-adjusted HCC incidence in California from 2009 through 2013 by race/ethnicity and neighborhood ethnic enclave status using data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results 18-Registry Database and the California Cancer Registry. They found that in Asians/Pacific Islanders (APIs) and Hispanics, the age-adjusted incidence of HCC was the highest, especially when residing in more ethnic neighborhoods. Individuals residing in lower income neighborhoods also have higher proportions of HCC. These individuals needed more extensive tailored preventive efforts.
