Direct anterior vs lateral approaches for clinical outcomes after total hip arthroplasty: A meta-analysis
Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research Mar 02, 2019
Wang Z, et al. - The outcomes of the direct anterior approach (DAA) vs the lateral approach (LA) for total hip arthroplasty (THA) patients were assessed via meta-analyzing 5 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) totaling 475 patients (DAA = 236, LA = 239), identified from three English databases, PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library. Evidence gained indicates a trend suggesting better efficacy of DAA in terms of pain relief and blood-saving in THA patients. In addition, patients in the DAA group displayed an increase in walking velocity, stride length, and step length compared with those in the LA group.
