Diabetes, mortality and glucose monitoring rates in the TREAT Asia HIV Observational Database Low Intensity Transfer (TAHOD-LITE) study
HIV Medicine Jul 29, 2019
Bijker R, et al. - Researchers examined how fasting plasma glucose (FPG) levels are related to mortality in people living with HIV receiving antiretroviral therapy. In addition, they sought factors related to FPG monitoring rates in Asia. They analyzed 33,232 patients from the Therapeutics Research, Education, and AIDS Training in Asia (TREAT Asia) HIV Observational Database Low Intensity Transfer (TAHOD-LITE) cohort. Outcomes revealed the correlation of prediabetes and diabetes with mortality vs those with normal FPG. An increase in FPG monitoring was observed; however, less than half of this cohort underwent the test. Male sex, age > 50 years compared to ≤ 40 years, and CD4 count ≥ 500 cells/μL compared to < 200 cells/μL were noted to be correlated to increased FPG monitoring.
