Development of significant tricuspid regurgitation over time and prognostic implications: New insights into natural history
European Heart Journal Jul 21, 2018
Prihadi EA, et al. - Researchers used a large registry of a referral center to assess the risk factors that have an impact on the development of significant (moderate and severe) tricuspid regurgitation (TR). They also determined its impact on all-cause mortality. For this study, 1,000 patients with documented significant TR were included, and patients with congenital heart disease were excluded. Factors that showed an independent association with the development of significant TR in a brief period of time were baseline age, presence of pacemaker and defibrillator lead, presence of mild (vs none) TR, reduced tricuspid annulus plane systolic excursion, and tricuspid annulus dilation. Detection of risk factors enabled improved survival via effective therapy at an earlier stage.
