Determination of VEGF, collagen type 1 and versican in the discus articularis of the temporomandibular joint in relation to dental status
Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery Oct 04, 2017
Michaelis M, et al. - The bi-fold aim of this trial was the analysis and comparison of the presence of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), collagen type 1 and the proteoglycan versican in the discus articularis in association with the dental status (full dentition [1], partial dentition [2] and edentulous [3]). The findings displayed an elevated presence of the proteoglycan versican and the neoangiogenesis factor VEGF when the occlusal supporting zone was lost. A reduction was noted in the detection of collagen type 1. The increasing degeneration when the supporting zone was lost owing to the loss of teeth was indicated via the loss of collagen type 1 and rise in versican and VGEF.
