Determinants of systemic hypertension in older adults in Africa: A systematic review
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Jul 27, 2019
Bosu WK, et al. - Via a systematic review, researchers sought risk factors linked to systemic hypertension in older adults in Africa. They identified 10,719 relevant records; of these, 63 eligible full-text articles were retained for review. Twenty-three out of these 63 eligible full-text articles were analyzed. Outcomes suggest that older age group, overweight/obesity, history of stroke and female sex are the main factors that are linked to systemic hypertension in older adults in Africa. Findings thereby emphasize promoting weight reduction throughout the life course, including during the middle and older age of African adults.
