Kaiser T, et al. - In this study conducted at the Dry Eye Clinic of the Department of Ophthalmology, University Hospital Dusseldorf, researchers assessed 64 candidates with mean age of 56.72 years to examine the incidence of depressive symptoms and their severity in dry eye disease (DED) and also to estimate the relationship of depressive symptoms with signs, symptoms, or subtypes of DED or with psychological factors like resilience, premorbid personality, and subjective well-being. They observed a negative correlation of depressive symptoms with premorbid personality trait extraversion and frustration tolerance whereas correlated positively with premorbid neuroticism, isolation tendencies, and esoteric tendencies. They recorded 61% of total participants with symptoms of depression (extent of depression- 25% minimal, 14% mild, 17% moderate, and 5% severe).
