Decompression alone vs decompression plus fusion for claudication secondary to lumbar spinal stenosis
The Spine Journal Jul 11, 2019
Thomas K, et al. - This study was undertaken to determine if the addition of fusion to decompression resulted in improved clinical outcomes at 3, 12, and 24 months postsurgery. Between October 2012 and January 2018, they carried out a multicenter, ambispective review of consecutive spine surgery patients enrolled. Investigators found that adding fusion to decompression did not lead to improved 3-, 12-, or 24-month follow-up results. Adding fusion to decompression does not give decompression alone any benefit in treating patients with neurogenic claudication secondary to lumbar stenosis without spondylolisthesis or deformity.
