D-dimer and the incidence of heart failure and mortality after acute myocardial infarction
Heart Aug 15, 2020
Zhang X, Wang S, Liu J, et al. - Researchers investigated the link between baseline D-dimer levels and the incidence of heart failure (HF), all-cause death among patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in this prospective cohort study. They analyzed 4,504 consecutive patients with AMI. Patients with D-dimer values in quartile 3 (Q3) had 1.51 times and in Q4 had 1.49 times as high as the risk of HF following hospitalisation vs patients in Q1, following complete adjustments for other relevant clinical covariates. Relative to patients in Q1, more than a twofold raised risk of mortality was noted in those with D-dimer values in Q4. In the adjusted models, no link was found between D-dimer levels and in-hospital HF. Overall, findings demonstrated an association of D-dimer with the incidence of HF post-hospitalisation and all-cause death among patients experiencing AMI.
