Cross-sectional survey in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes to understand mealtime insulin unmet needs in Japan: The MINUTES-J Study
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Feb 20, 2020
Ishii H, et al. - Researchers performed this inquiry among adult Japanese patients with type 1 (T1D) and type 2 (T2D) diabetes, to assess the existing burden and unmet needs associated with mealtime insulin (MTI) injection timing in this patient sample. They also assessed whether a new MTI could decrease this burden. Of included participants, 38% (amongst T1D, young T2D and elderly T2D groups) stated injecting MTI just prior to initiation or during meal in the past month. In T1D and T2D patients, the main causes for injecting during/after meal were feeling lower glucose level/hypoglycemic condition prior to the meal and forgetting, respectively. In this study, Japanese patients stated a substantial burden concerning the current MTI timings. This is suggestive of the necessity for novel MTI products that could attain optimal post-prandial glucose control at distinct timings to meet patients’ requirements in Japan.
