Correlation of venous lactate and time of death in emergency department patients with noncritical lactate levels and mortality from trauma
Journal of Emergencies, Trauma and Shock Aug 26, 2017
Jain A, et al. – Objectives of this study were to report the characteristics of patients with venous non–critical lactate level (NCLAC) and death from trauma, also to evaluate the correlation of venous NCLAC with the time of death. The median survival time was 5.6 days in trauma patients with NCLAC who died during the index hospitalization, around 1/3rd of patients died within the first 24 h. These findings demonstrated that relying on a triage NCLAC level alone could result in underestimating injury severity and subsequent morbidity and mortality.
