Corneal morphologic characteristics in patients with Down syndrome
JAMA Oct 10, 2018
Alio JL, et al. - In this multicenter observational study, researchers intended to describe the abnormal features of the cornea in subjects with Down syndrome (DS) and compare these with a control group. Using Placido disc/Scheimpflug camera topographer (Sirius, CSO), patients were evaluated. As compared to patients without genetic alterations and normal corneas, patients with DS have steeper and thinner corneas and more corneal aberrations. In such patients, a detailed corneal study should be considered to detect keratoconus and implement treatment as appropriate to try to avoid serious visual impairment in this group of patients.
