Conversion of failed hemiarthroplasty to total hip arthroplasty remains high risk for subsequent complications
Journal of Arthroplasty May 01, 2019
Hernandez NM, et al. - In this investigation, researchers assessed the risk and predictors of complications, dislocations, reoperations and revisions, as well as the extent of competing risk of death when evaluating results in patients converted from hemiarthroplasty to total hip arthroplasty (THA). Between 1985 and 2014, the study included 389 patients treated with THA conversion after hemiarthroplasty for femoral neck fractures. Risk factor for reoperations was increasing age. For subsequent complications, conversion from hemiarthroplasty to THA remains at high risk. The cumulative estimate of incidence provides a more accurate revision risk estimate.
