Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score is a predictor of post-operative outcomes in elderly gastric cancer patients undergoing curative gastrectomy: A prospective study
Cancer Management and Research Nov 25, 2019
Huang Y, Huang Y, Lu M, et al. - Researchers examined the predictive value of the CONUT score for postoperative outcomes in elderly patients undergoing curative gastrectomy. From August 2014 to September 2016, 357 gastric cancer patients who were scheduled to undergo curative gastrectomy were assessed for pre-operative CONUT scores. The analysis suggests a statistical association of CONUT scores with age, body mass index, pre-operative hemoglobin level, tumor-node-metastasis stage, surgical method, and post-operative complications. As per the multivariate analysis, there is an independent predictive value of age and the CONUT score for post-operative complications and 1-year survival. The CONUT score seems useful for classifying the nutritional status of patients, which may aid in pre–and post-operative nutritional management.
