Concomitant carcinoma in situ may not be a prognostic factor for patients with bladder cancer following radical cystectomy: A PRISMA-compliant systematic review and meta-analysis
World Journal of Urology Apr 02, 2019
Zhang L, et al. - Investigators assessed 18,845 patients to determine the relationship between carcinoma in situ (CIS) and clinicopathological characteristics and the prognostic value for bladder cancer (BCa) after radical cystectomy. In subjects with BCa, they observed no significant correlation between CIS and cancer-specific mortality, overall mortality, overall survival, cancer-specific survival, recurrence-free survival or recurrence. No relationship was seen between CIS and gender, pathological stage (III/IV vs I/II), tumor grade (1/2 vs 3), soft tissue surgical margin (+ vs −) or lymphovascular invasion (+ vs −); adjuvant chemotherapy was closely related to CIS. They concluded overall that there was no significant correlation between CIS and the prognosis and clinicopathological parameters of BCa.
