Composite cardiovascular risk factor target achievement and its predictors in US adults with diabetes: The Diabetes Collaborative Registry
Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Feb 20, 2019
Fan W, et al. – In this study, researchers assessed multiple risk factor target attainment in adults with diabetes mellitus for the prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and the predictors of such attainment in a contemporary diabetes mellitus registry. They identified patients who were at target for glycated hemoglobin, LDL cholesterol, and blood pressure, and who had non-smoking status, by sex, race, and history of ASCVD in the US Diabetes Collaborative Registry. According to findings, only one in five patients achieved comprehensive risk factor control (and fewer than one in six if the stricter blood pressure criterion was used) in the US registry of patients with DM. In order to optimize ASCVD risk factor control, the authors concluded that multifactorial interventions will be necessary.
