Comparisons of efficacy, safety, and recurrence risk factors of paroxysmal and persistent atrial fibrillation catheter ablation using robotic magnetic navigation system
Clinical Cardiology Mar 20, 2019
Zhao XX, et al. - Researchers used a robotic magnetic navigation system (MNS) to compare paroxysmal and persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation in terms of effectiveness, safety, and recurrence risk factors. A total of 102 prospectively enrolled patients were included in paroxysmal AF group and 49 in the persistent AF group. All patients underwent circumferential pulmonary vein antrum isolation (CPVI). Patients with persistent AF additionally received linear ablation at the left atrial roof and mitral isthmus. With CPVI, acute success rates in the two groups were 98.04% and 97.96%, respectively, and ablation success rates at 12-month follow-up were 70.6% and 57.1%, for the paroxysmal and persistent groups, respectively. In patients with persistent AF, the factors related to higher AF recurrence were AF duration and coronary heart disease before ablation. Overall, findings highlighted the effectiveness as well as the safety of ablation using MNS in patients with paroxysmal and persistent AF.
