Comparison of sarcopenia and cachexia in men with chronic heart failure: Results from the Studies Investigating Co-morbidities Aggravating Heart Failure (SICA-HF)
European Journal of Heart Failure Sep 07, 2018
Emami A, et al. - Considering the possible association of changes in heart failure (HF) patients' body composition with reduced exercise capacity, researchers investigated the overlap in wasting syndromes in HF (cachexia and sarcopenia) and compared their impact on functional capacity. They prospectively studied 207 ambulatory male patients with clinically stable chronic HF. With regard to functional capacity and quality of life amongst these patients, findings suggest that losing muscle with or without weight loss has a more distinct role than weight loss alone.
