Comparison of outcomes of transcatheter aortic valve implantation in patients aged >90 years vs <90 years
The American Journal of Cardiology Jul 21, 2019
Stehli J, et al. - Researchers conducted this investigation to assess the short- and mid-term outcomes of nonagenarians after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). All patients who had TAVI in two centers in Australia were prospectively enrolled in a registry and followed-up for 5 years between 2008 and 2017. Findings suggest that thoughtfully chosen nonagenarians have outstanding short- and mid-term post-TAVI results and therefore should not be denied treatment on the sole basis of age. The importance of a more advanced pre-TAVI frailty assessment vs the current widely used clinical frailty score is underscored by the significantly higher transfer rate to an aged-care facility.
