Comparison of outcomes in patients with takotsubo syndrome with-vs-without cardiogenic shock
The American Journal of Cardiology Oct 04, 2020
Syed M, Khan MZ, Osman M, et al. - Researchers used the National Inpatient Sample database to determine the incidence, predictors, as well as results of cardiogenic shock (CS) among hospitalized patients with takotsubo syndrome (TS). They split the cohort into patients with vs without CS. Predictors of CS as well as mortality in patients admitted with TS were explored applying logistic regression analysis. Findings showed the occurrence of CS in nearly 6% of patients admitted with TS. About six-fold higher in-hospital mortality was reported in TS patients with CS vs those without CS (23% vs 4%, p < 0.01). The identified independent predictors of CS and mortality were male gender and increased burden of co-morbidities at baseline.
