Comparison of outcomes among patients implanted with a leadless vs transvenous single-chamber ventricular pacemaker
JAMA Aug 01, 2021
Piccini JP, El-Chami M, Wherry K, et al. - Researchers sought to compare patient features as well as complications among patients implanted with leadless VVI and transvenous VVI pacemakers, in this cohort study including 15,408 patients. Acute (30-day) complications and 6-month complications were evaluated as main outcomes. Although there were significant differences in patient characteristics in this study population, findings revealed higher rates of pericardial effusion and/or perforation but lower rates of other device-related complications and needs for device revision at 6 months among patients in whom a leadless pacemaker was implanted. Acquiring knowledge about the advantages and risks linked with leadless VVI pacemakers vs transvenous VVI pacemakers can assist both clinicians and patients make informed treatment decisions.
