Comparison of mortality and readmission in non-ischemic vs ischemic cardiomyopathy after implantable cardioverter-defibrillator implantation
The American Journal of Cardiology Sep 01, 2020
Higgins AY, Bjerre J, Parzynski CS, et al. - This retrospective cohort study was undertaken to determine the risk of mortality and readmission after implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantation in patients with non-ischemic cardiomyopathies (NICM) vs ischemic cardiomyopathies (ICM) in a large nationally representative cohort. The National Cardiovascular Data Registry ICD Registry linked with Medicare claims, was used for this purpose. Findings revealed significantly higher risks of death and hospital readmission following primary prevention ICD implantation in patients with ICM vs NICM which was identified to be consistent across all patient subgroups examined and over the duration of the study.
