Comparison of fixed-bearing and mobile-bearing uni-compartmental knee arthroplasty: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of Arthroplasty Aug 02, 2019
Cao ZW, et al. - Through a systematic review and meta-analysis, researchers assessed the postoperative outcomes, including the revision rate, complications, functional outcomes, range of motion, and femoral-tibial angle, between the fixed-bearing uni-compartmental knee arthroplasty (FB-UKA) and mobile-bearing uni-compartmental knee arthroplasty (MB-UKA). In the meta-analysis, 15 comparative studies were involved. No variations between the two operation modes in terms of revision rates, complications and knee function were noted, however, earlier failure occurrence was more commonly noted in the MB design. Hence, for patients with classic indications, both of the arthroplasty types gave satisfactory clinical outcomes. in early postoperative years, MB-UKA tended to fail, whereas FB-UKA tended to fail in later postoperative years. Therefore, for each patient, treatment options should be carefully acknowledged, and surgeons should still use their personal experience while making a decision amid these options.
