Comparison of complications and in-hospital mortality in Takotsubo (apical ballooning/stress) cardiomyopathy vs acute myocardial infarction
The American Journal of Cardiology Aug 07, 2020
Vallabhajosyula S, Barsness GW, Herrmann J, et al. - Researchers used the National Inpatient Sample database to compare the incidence of complications and in-hospital results in a retrospective cohort of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TC) vs patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). They grouped complications as acute heart failure, ventricular arrhythmic, cardiac arrest, high-grade atrioventricular block, mechanical, vascular/access, pericardial, stroke, and acute kidney injury. Findings revealed that a greater probability of heart failure but lower rates of other complications and mortality were observed in correlation with TC vs AMI. Also, a temporal rise in the rates of in-hospital complications and death attributable to TC was reported.
