Comparison of choroidal thickness in preeclamptic, healthy pregnant, and nonpregnant women: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Ophthalmic Research Jun 03, 2019
Jiang MS, et al. - Researchers compared preeclamptic, healthy pregnant, and healthy nonpregnant women regarding the choroidal thickness (CT) measured by enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography (EDI-OCT). Searching PubMed, Embase, Ovid, Cochrane, and Web of Science, 14 studies focussing on the CT evaluation of pregnant women (n=1,227) were included in this meta-analysis. As per findings, healthy pregnant women had significantly higher CT than the nonpregnant women. This situation might complicate with the presence of preeclampsia. In most studies, the preeclamptic patients exhibited a decrease in the CT because of the increases in the systemic vasospasm and the blood pressure, which led to no significant difference compared with the nonpregnant women.
