Comparison of anterior-stabilized and posterior-stabilized total knee arthroplasty in the same patients: A prospective randomized study
Journal of Arthroplasty Apr 05, 2019
Jang SW, et al. - In the prospective, randomized controlled trial, authors estimated 45 candidates to evaluate the static and dynamic stability as well as function of anterior-stabilized (AS) vs anteroposterior (AP) total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in the same subjects. A significant difference was observed in knee AP laxity at 90° of flexion between the 2 groups (7.6 ± 3.9 mm in the AS group vs 2.2 ± 2.3 in the PS group) at 2 years postoperatively. Although, they noted no discrepancies in dynamic AP stability under 1 leg standing fluoroscopic lateral images at 30º, 60º, and 90º knee flexion. They did not report any significant difference in the Knee Society Score (KSS) and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) scores between the 2 groups. They overall suggested similar dynamic stability under weight-bearing conditions and knee function in both the AS and PS TKA groups at 2 years postoperatively.
