Comparison of 1 year pre- and post-transcatheter aortic valve replacement hospitalization rates: A population-based cohort study
Canadian Journal of Cardiology Jan 29, 2020
Czarnecki A, Qiu F, Henning KA, et al. - Researchers undertook this retrospective observational analysis to examine the link between the index transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and hospitalization rates pre- and post-procedure. Overall TAVR procedures done in Ontario, Canada between 2013 and 2017, on 2,547 patients, were included, after excluding those who died during the index hospitalization. All-cause hospitalization within 1 year of TAVR discharge was assessed as the primary outcome. Hospitalization of 60.2% of patients was reported in the year prior to TAVR, vs of 45.9% in the year after the procedure. For the year post-TAVR vs pre-TAVR, the rate ratio was estimated to be 0.82. Findings revealed the link of TAVR with a significant and sustained decrease in all-cause hospitalization in the year after the procedure vs the preprocedural period.
