Comparative study of the paraspinal muscles after OVF between the insufficient union and sufficient union using MRI
BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders May 19, 2018
Katsu M, et al. - Researchers assessed time-dependent changes of the paraspinal musculature using MRI after injury in patients with osteoporotic vertebral fractures (OVFs). They also compared paraspinal muscles between conservatively treated patients with OVF who had a successful union and those failed to conservative treatment. A time-dependent increase of fatty degeneration of the multifidus and erector muscles was seen. A role in the successful union in patients with OVF could be played by no change in the relative cross-sectional area (rCSA) and larger rCSAs of spinal erector.
