Comparative efficacy evaluation of inverted internal limiting membrane flap technique and internal limiting membrane peeling in large macular holes: A systematic review and meta-analysis
BMC Ophthalmology Jan 16, 2020
Shen Y, et al. - In this investigation involving 578 individuals (593 eyes), researchers contrasted the anatomical and visual outcomes of inverted internal limiting membrane (ILM) flap technique and internal limiting membrane peeling in large macular holes (MH). Via searching electronic databases of Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane Library, related studies were reviewed. For this systematic review and meta-analysis, articles that compared the inverted ILM flap technique with ILM peeling for large MH were searched. According to results, vitrectomy with inverted ILM flap technique had a better anatomical result compared with ILM peeling. In the short term, the flap technique also had a significant visual gain, but at a longer follow-up, limitations in visual recovery were identified.
