Clostridioides (Clostridium) difficile-associated disease: Epidemiology among patients in a general hospital in Saudi Arabia
American Journal of Infection Control Mar 07, 2020
Al-Tawfiq JA, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for presenting the epidemiology and incidence of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) in a hospital in Saudi Arabia. This investigation involved all stool samples from 2001 to 2018 that were tested for C. difficile. A total of 577 distinctive CDAD episodes comprised 5.2% of 10,995 tested stool samples with an annual positive rate of 0.9% -11.8%. Health care facility onset health care facility-associated disease rate per 1,000 patient-days rose from 0.009 to 0.22, respectively, from 2001 to 2018. Among all tested samples, the CDAD rate was 5.15% and that there is a large proportion of community associated-CDAD. The results mirror developed-country evidence and warrant further research on risk factors for community-associated CDAD.
