Clinical predictors and prognostic impact of recovery of wall motion abnormalities in takotsubo syndrome: Results from the International Takotsubo Registry
Journal of the American Heart Association Nov 13, 2019
Jurisic S, Gili S, Cammann VL, et al. - Among patients with takotsubo syndrome (TTS) identified from the International Takotsubo Registry, researchers explored clinical predictors as well as the prognostic influence of left ventricular (LV) recovery time. For early LV recovery, the cut-off was defined to be 10 days following the acute event. Of 406 patients examined, early LV recovery and late LV improvement were seen in 191 (47.0%) and 215 (53.0%) patients, respectively. More often being male and presentation with typical TTS was reported for patients without early recovery. Patients without early recovery vs those with early recovery had higher cardiac and inflammatory markers. The unfavorable 1-year outcome was observed in patients without early recovery vs those with early recovery. The factors that were found to be related to the absence of early recovery, on multiple logistic regression, were male gender, LV ejection fraction < 45%, and acute neurologic disorders. Overall, distinct clinical features were observed in TTS patients without early LV recovery vs those with early recovery.
