Clinical outcomes of young black men receiving HIV medical care in the United States, 2009–2014
Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes Apr 12, 2019
Chowdhury P, et al. - Given the increased prevalence of viral suppression in all tests in the past 12 months (durable viral suppression) from 58% to 68% among persons receiving HIV care during 2009-2013, researchers investigated if young black men receiving care show this same improvement. Analyzing data of 336 black men aged 18–24 years from the 2009-2014 Medical Monitoring Project, they identified lower viral suppression among young black men during 2009-2014 than that among the overall population receiving HIV care in 2013 (36% vs 68%). To improve health and reduce HIV transmissions in this key population, increasing viral suppression is imperative.
