Clinical outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation receiving amiodarone on NOACs vs warfarin
Journal of Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology Aug 24, 2018
Avendano R, et al. - Given that recent retrospective trials have shown a higher risk of major bleeding in patients who were on new oral anticoagulants (NOACs) and were concomitantly treated with amiodarone, researchers compared clinical outcomes between NOACs and warfarin in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) being treated with amiodarone in order to find out if this increased risk outweighs the benefits. They systematically reviewed four randomized controlled trials comparing NOACs to warfarin. They used the Mantel-Haenszel method to measure risk ratio (RR) and 95% confidence intervals. They also used fixed effects model. According to the findings, no increased risk of stroke, major bleeding, or intracranial bleeding (ICB) was observed with NOACs vs warfarin among patients with AF taking amiodarone.
