Clinical impact of using a more sensitive troponin assay in patients with acute chest pain
Clinical Cardiology Mar 24, 2019
Wang G, et al. - In this pre-post cohort study, researchers examined how the implementation of a more sensitive cardiac troponin I (cTnI) assay may influence clinical management in patients with acute non-traumatic chest pain presenting to the emergency department (ED). Based on the cTnI assay used, they allocated a total of 1,201 consecutive patients with acute non-traumatic chest pain or equivalent ischemic symptoms suggestive of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) to two groups. With the implementation of the more sensitive troponin assay, they noted shortened ED length of stay in terms of patients discharged home directly, but with more hospitalizations and procedures, without affecting the incidence of major adverse cardiac events.
