Clinical factors associated with gastric cancer in individuals with Lynch syndrome
Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology Aug 15, 2019
Kim J, Braun D, Ukaegbu C, et al. - Researchers conducted multivariate logistic regression to identify clinical factors correlated with gastric cancer in carriers of germline variants causing Lynch syndrome [most common inherited cause of gastrointestinal cancer and increases the risk for a variety of malignancies, including gastric cancer]. Data from 51,086 people were analyzed. Investigators found the history of gastric cancer to be independently linked to the male sex, older age, mutations in MLH1 or MSH2, and with having a first-degree relative with gastric cancer in an analysis of data from nearly 4,000 carriers of Lynch syndrome-associated mutations. These results indicate that for people with Lynch syndrome-associated mutations, personalized, risk-stratified approaches to gastric cancer monitoring may be suitable.
