Clinical evaluation of the Uphold LITE mesh for the surgical treatment of anterior and apical prolapse: A prospective, multicentre trial
Neurourology and Urodynamics Aug 02, 2019
Allegre L, Debodinance P, Demattei C, et al. - Women who underwent a mesh surgery due to an anterior prolapse along with the symptomatic anterior prolapse (classed as pelvic organ prolapse quantification stage ≥ 2) were involved in a prospective, multicentre, observational study by the researchers in order to assess the safety and efficiency of the Uphold LITE mesh in the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse at 12-month follow-up. One hundred and twenty-one patients were involved. Rates of symptomatic and anatomic cure, respectively, were 94% and 76.8%. The rate of the composite success was 72.4%. For apical or anterior recurrent prolapse, the rate of reoperation was 3.9%. In 18.2% and 7.2% of individuals, respectively, anatomical anterior or apical recurrence happened. In centers where more than 30 patients had been treated, the composite success rate was significantly greater. The serious complications rate was 5.4%. Improvements were noted in quality of life including sexual function. Therefore, in the treatment of anterior and apical prolapse, the Uphold LITE mesh procedure gave satisfactory outcomes, especially in high-volume centers. Moreover, tolerable rates of adverse impressions and reintervention for recurrent prolapse were recorded.
