Circulating inflammatory markers and colorectal cancer risk: A prospective case-cohort study in Japan
International Journal of Cancer Nov 19, 2018
Song M, et al. - As molecular pathways contributing to carcinogenesis could be assessed by determining blood levels of inflammation-related markers, researchers sought to clarify their prospective associations with colorectal cancer (CRC) risk. Within the Japan Public Health Center-based Prospective Study Cohort II, they conducted a case-cohort study comparing 457 incident CRC cases during median 18 years follow-up with a random subcohort of 774 individuals. Findings implicate chemokine alterations in colorectal carcinogenesis, but confirmation is recommended by replication of the findings. For colorectal cancer screening and etiologic research, potential application of noninvasive chemokine assays is suggested.
