Circulating inflammation markers and risk of gastric and esophageal cancers: A case–cohort study within the Japan Public Health Center–Based Prospective Study
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention Mar 21, 2019
Camargo MC, et al. - Within the Japan Public Health Center–Based Prospective Study Cohort II, a case–cohort analysis including 446 and 68 incident cases of gastric and esophageal cancer, respectively, was performed to assess risk associations of gastric and esophageal cancers with prediagnostic levels of a wide range of circulating inflammation proteins. Researchers used Luminex bead-based assays and measured 64 biomarkers in baseline plasma. Nominal associations of sEGFR and TSLP with gastric cancer risk, and association of CRP, CXCL11/ITAC, and CCL15/MIP1D, with esophageal cancer, were revealed in separate models. However, following FDR correction, no association reached statistical significance. According to the findings, circulating inflammation markers were not related to the risk of upper GI tract tumors.
