Chemotherapy is associated with increased survival from colorectal signet ring cell carcinoma with distant metastasis: A Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database analysis
Cancer Medicine Mar 23, 2019
Shi T, et al. - Researchers used the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database to assess prognostic factors of colorectal signet ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) with different metastatic sites and to determine the effects of different therapies for metastatic colorectal SRCC. This study included patients with non-SRCC colorectal cancer (NOS) and SRCC. Of 173,460 included patients, colorectal SRCC was present in 1932 (1.11%) patients. Factors related to higher mortality risk were older age, male sex, and peritoneum metastasis. In SRCC, the site with the highest metastatic frequency as well as worst prognosis was the peritoneum. For colorectal SRCC patients with distant metastasis, better survival was offered by chemotherapy than surgery.
