Characteristics of sleep-disordered breathing in patients with atrial fibrillation and preserved left ventricular ejection fraction
Clinical Research in Cardiology Sep 28, 2017
Strotmann J, et al. - Researchers sought to determine characteristics of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) in atrial fibrillation (Afib) patients with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (PEF). They reported a high prevalence of SDB in this patient population. About 15% of patients with moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) were recommended to be treated as per current guidelines. In addition, 36% of patients presented with moderate-to-severe mixed sleep apnea and nearly 10% of patients had central sleep apnea (CSA), treatment guidelines for these types of SDB in the setting of Afib are needed.
