Seminars in Arthritis and Rheumatism Feb 12, 2020
Aviel YB, Batu ED, Sozeri B, et al. - A cross-sectional cohort comparison was conducted to compare the main characteristics of pediatric Behcet's disease (BD) individuals from Turkey vs Israel. The study recruited a sum of 205 individuals(165 from Turkey; 40 from Israel). Researchers investigated disease activity with BD current activity form. Compared with individuals from Israel, HLA-B51 positivity, male gender, and skin involvement were more frequent among individuals from Turkey. Evidence showed that tests of pathergy and HLA-B51 were more frequently performed in individuals from Turkey compared with individuals from Israel. International Criteria for BD had the highest sensitivity (73.2%), followed by pediatric BD (PED-BD) (47.8%), and The International Study Group (42%) criteria sets for BD classification in the whole group. This is the largest cohort of pediatric BD reported to date. Due to different ethnicity and environmental factors, the disease characteristics significantly differ among pediatric BD individuals from Turkey and Israel.
