Rymer-Haskel N, et al. - Considering the observation that advanced maternal age (AMA) is associated with increased risk for preeclampsia, researchers aimed to compare the characteristics and severity of preeclampsia in older and younger gravidas. they noted that preeclampsia at an advanced maternal age carries a similar rate of severe preeclampsia and complications as in young women. However, an increased risk for presentation or exacerbation of preeclampsia in the postpartum period and an increased rate of cesarean section were observed in women over 40 years old compared to younger gravidas.
