Changes in use of radiotherapy among dermatologists from 2013 to 2017
JAMA Dec 27, 2020
Nguyen KD, et al. - Researchers sought to report on the recent changes in radiotherapy (RT) use and payment among dermatologists treating patients enrolled in Medicare. They performed a cross-sectional analysis of Medicare billing data from 2013 to 2017 identifying that the use of and payments for radiotherapy have increased among dermatologists. Increase in the number of dermatologists using RT was noted from 115 to 198 between 2013 and 2017, and the median payment per dermatologist was $80,810 in 2017. Findings overall suggest that despite recent concerns about improper use and changes in permissible radiotherapy codes, use of and payments for radiotherapy continue to increase among dermatologists.
