Changes in the etiological factors of dental trauma in children over time: An 18-year retrospective study
Dental Traumatology May 08, 2019
Kırzıoglu Z, et al. - Researchers retrospectively evaluated 1971 patients with a history of dental trauma who attended the clinic from 1999 to 2017, for the factors related to dental injuries in children. In addition, they sought the ways by which the education given to children, parents, and teachers in schools regarding dental trauma could be improved. The 7–12 year age group frequently (55.9%) suffer dental injuries. During the years 2013 and 2017, more frequent clinic visits of children in the 0–6 year age group compared to previous years were reported. Compared to girls, boys had a higher frequency of trauma. Falls were identified to be the most frequent cause of trauma (46%). Over the 18-year period, they identified no change in the etiologic factors related to trauma in children and no change in the number of patients who attended the clinic. However, there was a change in the elapsed time to attend the clinic. They recommend increasing awareness regarding the importance of emergency intervention immediately following dental trauma via education.
