Changes in rapid HIV treatment initiation after national “treat all” policy adoption in 6 sub-Saharan African countries: Regression discontinuity analysis

PLoS Medicine Jun 14, 2019

Tymejczyk O, et al. - Via conducting a longitudinal study involving 814,603 patients enrolled in HIV care, researchers assessed the real-world impact of treat all policies on antiretroviral treatment (ART) uptake across six different countries in sub-Saharan Africa. They noted substantial increases in rapid ART initiation within 30 days of enrollment after national policy adoption of treat all, and little differences in rapid ART initiation across patients with different immunodeficiency status, as measured by CD4 counts. These increases followed different trajectories across the 6 nations. According to the investigators, young adults and men still require additional attention to further improve rapid ART initiation.
