CHA2DS2-VASc score predicts atrial fibrillation recurrence after cardioversion: Systematic review and individual patient pooled meta-analysis
Clinical Cardiology Mar 20, 2019
Vitali F, et al. - Researchers investigated whether early arrhythmia recurrence after atrial fibrillation (AF) cardioversion could be predicted using congestive heart failure or left ventricular systolic dysfunction (CHA2DS2-VASc) score. For this purpose, they analyzed observational trials identified from PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Biomed Central involving AF patients undergoing cardioversion and with available data on recurrence of AF and available data on CHA2DS2-VASc score. Overall, they analyzed 2,889 patients, including 61% male, 50% having hypertension, 12% with diabetes, and 23% with history of ischemic heart disease. Early recurrence of AF in the first 30 days following electrical or pharmacological cardioversion was predicted by CHA2DS2-VASc score and the independent predictors of early recurrence of AF were chronic kidney disease, peripheral artery disease, previous use of beta blockers, and CHA2DS2-VASc score > 2.
