Catheter ablation of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation in patients with sick sinus syndrome
Heart and Vessels Sep 07, 2018
Hada M, et al. - Given the frequent coexistence of sick sinus syndrome (SSS) and atrial fibrillation (AF), researchers evaluated the results of AF ablation in patients with SSS. They retrospectively examined patients with paroxysmal AF (PAF) and SSS who underwent AF ablation using either radiofrequency (n=50) or cryoballoon ablation (n=15) in their institute. Outcomes suggest that in the majority of the patients with SSS and PAF, AF ablation can help avoid permanent pacemaker implantations. SSS type 1 is identified to be a single factor that could predict pacemaker implantations.
