Catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Jan 19, 2019
AlTurki A, et al. - Researchers searched electronic databases for all randomized controlled trials that compared catheter ablation and medical therapy, with or without use of anti-arrhythmic drugs (AAD), to evaluate if catheter ablation is better than medical therapy in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Seven randomized controlled trials with 856 patients (429 in the catheter ablation arm and 427 in the medical therapy arm) were retrieved and summarized. Findings revealed catheter ablation for AF was linked with significantly reduced mortality and heart failure-related hospitalizations as well as improved LVEF in patients with HFrEF vs medical therapy, including use of AAD.
