Cardiovascular risk burden and future risk of walking speed limitation in older adults
Journal of the American Geriatrics Society Nov 15, 2017
Heiland EG, et al. - The association between the cardiovascular risk factor (CRF) burden and limitation in walking speed, balance, and chair stand was investigated. In addition, the authors aimed to verify whether these associations vary according to age and cognitive status. An association was observed between a higher Framingham general cardiovascular risk score (FRS) and greater risk of subsequent development of walking speed limitation in adults younger than 78, independent of cognitive function. In younger-old people, interventions targeting multiple CRFs could help in maintaining mobility function.
