Cardiovascular morbidity and mortality after aortic dissection, intramural hematoma, and penetrating aortic ulcer
Journal of Vascular Surgery Mar 15, 2019
Weiss S, et al. - In this retrospective review performed at Olmsted County, Minnesota, researchers determined the rates of cardiovascular (CV) events in a cohort of 133 patients [77 with aortic dissection (AD), 21 with intramural hematoma (IMH), 35 with penetrating aortic ulcer (PAU); 57% male]. As per outcomes, the patients with AD/IMH/PAU exhibit a two- to threefold risk of nonaortic CV death, any first-time nonfatal CV event, and first-time heart failure when compared to the age- and sex-matched population referents. These data implicate the need for long-term cardiovascular management for patients with AD/IMH/PAU.
